The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That
Whenever a significant prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts with niche passions.
A fellow writer made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely that year
- Another imaginative release was excluded that year
- Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
- Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games globally and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
